Job Description

Job Description

Join STERIS and turn your mechanical know‑how into life‑changing impact. Every day, you will keep critical medical equipment running in hospital settings across California, supporting caregivers as they care for patients.

A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing your mobile schedule, prioritizing preventive maintenance, service calls, and warranty visits across your territory. You head to a hospital, diagnose an equipment issue, and perform repairs on the spot. Between appointments, you document work thoroughly in our digital platforms to meet regulatory compliance and capture troubleshooting details. When complex issues arise, you loop in Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management to escalate and resolve efficiently. Before the day ends, you discuss repair options and pricing with a customer contact, note a potential sales opportunity for the account team, and plan tomorrow’s installations and field upgrade programs.

Where you will work

This is a remote, customer‑facing role working primarily inside hospitals. To support the assigned territory, you must reside in California.

What you will do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain STERIS and multi‑vendor medical equipment, systems, and components.
  • Own your schedule to balance PMs, service and warranty calls, installations, field upgrades, and related tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management to properly escalate issues.
  • Use advanced technology platforms to fulfill compliance requirements and to record troubleshooting and service outcomes.
  • Provide customers with clear information, pricing, and repair choices; coordinate with Sales to enhance customer experience and identify revenue opportunities.
  • Support multiple customer locations within your territory based on service agreements and needs.
What you bring
  • High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical or technical capacity. An associate degree, relevant technical certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward the technical background requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet background and physical assessment elements necessary to obtain and maintain existing and new vendor credentialing requirements.
  • Experience engaging with customers and teaming with colleagues.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with basic computing: Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps, and entering data across multiple systems.
  • Flexibility for early or late hours and occasional overnights based on customer and business needs.
Backgrounds that thrive

HVAC, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive, aviation repair, plumbing, and electrical.
