POSITION: Director of the School of Music. Tenured, full-time, twelve-month position. Review of applications begins 1 February 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. Starting date: August 1, 2025. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for the position must possess a terminal degree in Music or related field; a record and experience commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor in a School of Music at the time of appointment; and knowledge of broad academic and curricular issues within music and allied disciplines. University-level administrative experience with demonstrated leadership ability and a professional record of fundraising/donor development are a plus. Candidates will be asked to articulate an innovative vision for the future and for the growth of the School of Music. Excellent interpersonal skills and an entrepreneurial spirit are expected. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of the School of Music will provide vision and strategic leadership for all programs of the School; support the School’s faculty and staff in their academic, research, creative, and service activities; and commit to the recruitment and mentorship of a diverse body of faculty, staff, and students. The Director will assume the administrative responsibilities for implementing the School’s faculty/staff hiring processes, annual reviews, budgeting, course planning, curricula, and other academic duties; be committed to the professional development of faculty, staff, and students; grow and advance alumni and donor relations; and foster collaborations within the School and with other appropriate campus, community, and professional entities. The Director is responsible for teaching one course per academic quarter. THE UNIVERSITY: Louisiana Tech is a selective admissions university and offers a broad range of fully accredited undergraduate degrees in a variety of majors and doctoral programs in areas of specified expertise. A vital part of the College of Liberal Arts, the NASM-accredited School of Music offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with concentrations in Liberal Arts, Performance (vocal and instrument), Music Education (vocal and instrumental), and Music Industry Studies. The campus is located in Ruston, Louisiana, 70 miles east of Shreveport and 30 miles west of Monroe on Interstate 20. The geographical location of Ruston makes it an important trade and medical center for an area of over 100,000 people.
