EnviroScience is currently seeking a part-time to full-time Environmental Inspector for our Compliance Services Practice Area. The Compliance Services Environmental Inspector at EnviroScience is responsible for ensuring that projects comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The role involves conducting fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting to support environmental compliance initiatives. The inspector works closely with project managers, regulatory agencies, and clients to assess compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies and inspect sites for compliance mostly in the construction field. Knowledge of stormwater runoff and erosion will be used daily. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Inspection & Environmental Compliance Monitoring

  • Collect and analyze samples (water, soil, air) to assess environmental quality.
  • Conduct field inspections of industrial, commercial, construction and residential sites to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and a SWPPP.
  • Inspect facilities for adherence to water quality, hazardous waste management, and other environmental standards based on the practice area.
  • Monitor construction and development projects for compliance with environmental permits and plans.
  • Communication skills with onsite personnel to relay site findings, concerns, recommendations, or project designs.
Data Collection and Analysis
  • Collect and analyze environmental samples, including soil, water, air, and biological specimens.
  • Use monitoring equipment to measure environmental parameters such as pollutant levels and noise levels.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, sample collections, photographs, and monitoring activities.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Skilled in Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Document violations and prepare notices of non-compliance or enforcement actions.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental impact assessments and regulatory compliance reports.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of the any local permits including NPDES that are used regularly at sites.
  • Provide guidance to businesses, developers, and the public on environmental compliance requirements or design criteria.
  • Collaboration and Coordination
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and planners to address environmental issues and develop mitigation strategies.
This is a remote position with work stationed around the eastern end of North Carolina and Virginia (Raleigh and Richmond). We enjoy and appreciate collaboration as a team and expect great communication, but all work very independently in the field as a Scientist or inspector, with minimal supervision. We are on the road a lot (mostly day travel, you will be home each evening, unless out of town work is scheduled for a project), outdoors in varying types of weather, city/residential neighborhoods, and sometimes in remote and challenging locations. Standard office equipment will be provided to work in the office and at home - a dedicated space at home to work is also required.   • On-site work, outdoors, on active and non-active construction sites in both urban and rural areas.
  • Long periods of driving throughout the state.
  • Some weekend and out of town travel is expected.

  • Walking for periods of time including , maneuvering uneven, uphill, and downhill terrain
Travel Requirements: 50% Work is required around the Carolina and Virginia and regional offices as needed. Qualifications Requirements Minimum Qualifications: * Associates degree or 3 years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience: o Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field. o 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance and regulatory processes. o Experience with GIS and other data analysis tools. o Certifications in relevant areas such as CESSWI, Stormwater Management, or Hazardous Waste Operations. o Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations. o Proficiency in environmental data collection and analysis techniques. o Strong technical writing skills for report preparation.
