CONTRACT TYPE: Continuing contract (at will). This is a staff job with generous benefits including healthcare, enhanced Paid Time Off and a retirement savings plan.

LOCATION: Miami, USA – local terms and conditions apply
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: $66,000 - $75,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Any offer of employment with the BBC will be conditional upon you having the right to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).
Please note that this role operates on a rota basis and will include weekend shifts as part of a rotating schedule.

BBC News Mundo is part of the BBC World Service, an international multimedia broadcaster delivering a wide range of language and regional services, working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. We use multiple platforms to reach millions of people globally.
BBC News Mundo provides news, explainers, context and original stories to Spanish speaking audiences across Latin America and beyond, through direct digital platforms and social media. This includes our own site as well as channels on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and WhatsApp.

We are looking for a Journalist who is passionate about digital journalism to help us to consolidate our growth and value reach.
Based in our Miami bureau, you'll collaborate with a dynamic, multilingual team across BBC Mundo and wider BBC News. We're passionate about delivering quality journalism to audiences in Latin America and the US.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
Create and Adapt Multimedia Content: Propose, research, write, edit, and translate original multimedia stories, ensuring they are timely, accurate, and engaging across BBC Mundo platforms. Video skills will be an advantage. You should be a creative and versatile journalist, with a strong understanding of what makes good digital journalism and digital video and how it is consumed on different platforms
Editorial Requirements: The role requires sound editorial judgment, understanding of international affairs as well as Latin American affairs, sharp writing and/or video editing skills and the ability to respond to breaking news. Candidates should enjoy working under pressure and bring plenty of story and treatment ideas to the role
Source and Interview Contributors: Identify and interview contributors and sources, maintaining BBC standards of accuracy, impartiality, and fairness
Audience Engagement and Analytics: Use social media to interact with audiences and apply analytics to tailor content to viewer preferences and behaviours
Editorial and Legal Compliance: Ensure all content meets BBC editorial standards and legal, contractual, and copyright requirements, escalating issues when necessary
Flexible and Collaborative Work: Work across teams and locations, manage resources efficiently, meet tight deadlines, and be open to travel on varied assignments
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
A full command and up to date knowledge of Spanish as first (or equivalent) language with excellent written Spanish skills and an ability to use language to tell a story effectively
Complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively
Evidence of recent original journalistic work of impact in the target area
Wide and up to date familiarity with the target area and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience
A thorough knowledge of the aims, objectives and standards of the BBC World Service
An understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda and a wider interest in the strategy of the BBC as a whole
Desired But Not Required
Experience with digital and Social Media videos would be considered an advantage
Experience with live and recorded video presentation would be an advantage
Experience of reporting in the field, on international and/or Latin American current affairs issues would be an advantage
