Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for an Independent Contractor (Liquid Cargo Surveyor) to work with ourAgricultural Services team in New Orleans, LA. The Independent Contractor will be responsible for ensuring client instructions are carried out at agreed consignment locations, acting as an independent party to verify compliance with agreed processes and inspection and supervision procedures.

To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend inspection locations in accordance with job instructions.
  • Supervise loading or discharge of Liquid cargo (shore to vessel / vessel to shore , shore / vessel to barge).
  • Carry out ship, shore tank, lines and vessel manifolds cleanliness inspections.
  • Verify previous cargoes.
  • Draw samples in accordance to company procedures and / or product specific procedures.
  • Verify for contamination.
  • Calculate quantity loaded/discharged by gauging of shore tanks and ullage of vessel tanks by means of Ulage/dip survey.
  • Adhere to company health and safety procedures as well product safety data sheets.
  • Visual quality inspection of product during loading.
  • Record and report details of inspection accurately in accordance with instructions.
  • Identify any deviations or discrepancies in shipments and report it in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Collection of documents and samples as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Read and interpret documents such as tank strap/calibration tables, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manual, safety instructions etc.
  • Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of density and volume conversions.
  • Follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite (primarily word and excel).
  • Work well with others and independently.
  • Maintain a professional and independent position for all assignments.
  • Effective communication skills with onsite and office based staff.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to convey details through written reports and photographs.
  • Must be reliable and able to organise and operate independently (training will be provided).
  • Computer literate.
  • Positive attitude.

Required Work Experience

  • Previous liquid cargo surveying experience, preferably with liquid fertilizer and vegetable oil.
  • Experience in using measuring tape , sampling equipment and performing required calculations and corrections.
  • (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials allow access to US Ports) preferred. If working in a location where TWIC is required, candidates must be able to pass the background and security requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid and clean Driving Licence.
  • Must have a working laptop and/or smartphone/ tablet.
  • Must have a personal vehicle suitable for transportation to assignments.

Travel / Rotation Requirements

  • Flexible working schedule between the hours of 6am - 6pm. On occasions there may be requirements to work past 6pm and/or weekends.
  • Willing to travel to remote inspection locations (in some cases up to 150 miles one way).
