A non-licensed, staff member who is trained to be flexible in a variety of nursing support and transport duties. Performs a variety of clinical tasks including, but not limited to nursing units, cleaning and stocking of patients rooms and other unit areas, and direct patient care within the scope of defined practice. Functions under the direct supervision of the shift primary nurse. Cares for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures. Minimum Job Qualifications include current Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant or successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing Course if a nursing student or CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only). Educational requirements include reading, writing, and math skills at a 10th grade completion level or higher as evidenced by a High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school. On-the-job training; previous experience as Patient Care Tech desirable. Job duties include obtaining and reporting basic patient physiological data, utilizing proper body mechanics, monitoring intake and output, identifying and reporting status changes, organizing patient care, performing therapeutic procedures, making frequent rounds, orienting patients and families, explaining procedures, recording patient data, answering telephones, placing reports in charts, contributing to patient safety, distributing linen and ice, replacing telemetry batteries, performing patient transport, cleaning and restocking, changing sharps containers, replacing glove boxes and disinfectant wipes, preparing rooms for new admissions, participating in staff meetings, reading and responding to emails, exhibiting scheduling flexibility, and completing competency assessments. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying up to 20 lbs, moderate vision requirements, frequent kneeling/stooping/bending, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, and frequent intensity of work. Job requires reading, writing, reasoning, talking, and keyboarding skills.
