The Principal Investigator is responsible for overseeing field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, reporting, and curation in accordance with quality standards, agency requirements and scientific norms. This role involves budget management, proposal preparation, client interaction, and coordination with regulatory agencies. Additionally, the position involves mentoring technical professionals and contributing to their professional development. Responsibilities include directing technical tasks and processes, offering expertise in federal, state, and local regulatory compliance, coordinating with agencies and clients, preparing scopes of work and budgets, leading field operations, authoring comprehensive technical documents including reports, research designs, and treatment plans, conducting artifact analysis, participating in professional organizations, and mentoring and training junior staff. Qualifications require a Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field, 2+ years of supervisory experience in archaeological investigations (Phase I, II, III), experience in San Antonio or greater South Central Texas region focusing on historic and Spanish Colonial sites, proficiency in Section 106 of the NHPA, Antiquities Code of Texas, and NEPA, ability to direct and mentor field and lab technicians, clean permitting history, experience in full-cycle technical report writing, familiarity with digital data collection platforms and GPS, ability to work independently in varying field conditions, physical capability for field tasks, and flexibility to work standard business hours with occasional overtime. Preferred qualifications include experience in archival research, faunal analysis, leadership in testing and data recovery projects, familiarity with GIS and City of San Antonio’s Unified Development Code, and experience in bioarcheological and/or faunal analysis. Candidates selected for interview must provide a technical writing sample.
