The Scientific Writer analyzes scientific data and translates complex scientific concepts, written or oral, within a variety of fields into prose appropriate to the level of understanding of the target audience. This job also assists the Principal Investigator (PI) with the development and/or completion of scientific documents, which include the creation, formatting, proofreading, editing and finalization of scientific documents. Core job functions include creating, implementing, and maintaining competitive application templates for grant proposals; formatting, substantive copy and scientific editing, proofreading, and finalizing documents; ensuring readability, clarity, consistency, and conformance to applicable submission requirements; reviewing and ensuring document language is scientifically/medically correct and consistent; communicating with principal investigators and senior leadership authors to ensure accuracy and clarity; editing extramurally funded proposals; working closely with presenters on scientific presentations; ensuring documents conform with regulations and guidelines; obtaining and maintaining documentation for copyright transfers and conflict of interest statements; tracking progress and responding to publication queries; and adhering to University policies and safeguarding assets. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, minimum 2 years of relevant experience, effective communication skills, data collection and analysis skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize work under pressure, ability to work independently or collaboratively, commitment to University values, and proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office.
