Job Description

Overview Job Title: Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Brown Missionary Baptist Church. Location: Brown Missionary Baptist Church. Position Type: Part-time (adjust as needed). Reports To: Chief Financial Officer. Position Overview: The Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a vital role in supporting the financial administration of the church. This position works closely with the CFO to ensure that financial operations, reporting, budgeting, and stewardship efforts are carried out efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with the church’s mission and values. Responsibilities Provide administrative and operational support to the CFO. Assist with financial data entry, account reconciliation, and record keeping. Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Maintain and organize financial documents, contracts, and confidential records. Help prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis reports. Communicate with ministry leaders regarding budget use and financial procedures. Support external audits and ensure timely submission of documentation. Assist with reconciliation and recordkeeping. Assist with month-end closing processes. Monitor discount opportunities on vendor invoices. Maintain accurate vendor files and records. Assist with Senior Housing Facility. Assist in Sponsorship objectives, with energy and creativity. Assist with developing and implementing sponsorship plans to support church programs, outreach and capital projects. Assist with cultivating and maintaining relationships with church members, donors & sponsors. Assist with Ministry Leaders to integrate sponsorship opportunities into church events and seasonal campaigns. Identify and cultivate new individual and corporate sponsors. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience in a finance or administrative support role (nonprofit or church experience preferred). Strong knowledge of financial principles, bookkeeping, and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Desktop/Online, ROCK). Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). High level of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a faith-based team environment. Preferred Attributes A committed Christian with a heart for ministry and financial stewardship. Familiarity with church operations, donor management, and nonprofit accounting practices. Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to meet deadlines. Willingness to learn and grow within a supportive and mission-driven environment. The ability to multi-task and pivot. Work Schedule & Environment Occasional evening or weekend work.
